Your Next Chapter Needs One Finished Thing.

You’re ready to build. But every new plan is interrupting the work you already started.

An overhead view of coffee, a notebook, and a gold pen in warm window light with the headline Finish one useful thing.

I remember the moment I describe in The Day I Walked Anyway: sitting in my studio in Wailuku, aware of the contrast between the beautiful day outside and what I was carrying inside.

Something needed to shift. In the book, I describe the turning point as a quiet decision to move before everything felt certain. That experience is behind my message, “Clarity comes from movement.” It is also why I care about follow-through: a step becomes useful when we actually take it.

You’ve come through a chapter that asked a lot of you. Now you want to build something useful from what you know.

You start the workbook. Then decide it should be a course.

You outline the book. Then wonder whether coaching would be better.

By Friday, you have three new plans and the same unfinished work.

Changing direction can be wise when you have learned something meaningful. But changing it every time the work feels uncertain keeps your idea in preparation.

Choose a piece you can complete

Think about the coaching offer, book, or digital product you are building.

What is one useful piece you could finish in a focused work session?

For a workbook, it might be one exercise with clear instructions. For a book, one section that answers a reader’s question. For coaching, a simple outline of what happens during the first session.

Choose something specific enough that you can tell when it is done.

“Work on my business” leaves the finish line invisible.

“Write the instructions for the first exercise” gives you a task you can complete.

Keep new ideas from taking over

When another idea arrives, write it on a separate list.

Then return to the task you chose.

You can consider the new idea after you have finished the current piece. Every thought does not need to become a new assignment today.

Let completion teach you

Read what you finished from the perspective of the woman it is for.

Can she understand it? Can she use it? What needs clarification?

When appropriate, ask someone who fits your audience for feedback. Make the next revision from what you learn.

You can pray for wisdom, seek counsel, and follow through on a practical commitment.

Your next chapter needs work you can put in front of someone.

Finish one useful thing today. Then choose the next move.
